A 23-year-old El Paso man is facing drug smuggling charges after he was allegedly caught at the Bridge of the Americas with nearly 3,000 Ecstasy pills.Customs and Border Protection officers arrested David Valdez about 8:30 p.m. Monday after officers found the pills inside a 2005 Dodge Stratus that Valdez was allegedly driving.Officials said Valdez was trying to cross into the U.S. from Mexico at the port of entry when a drug-sniffing dog, "Shake," alerted officers to Valdez's vehicle. Inside, officers found two large plastic bags filled with 2,804 orange, purple and white pills hidden in the vehicle's center console. The pills tested positive for the properties contained in Ecstasy.Valdez was booked into the El Paso County Jail without bond pending a detention hearing.
