Lt. Fabian Pacheco says, "Some of the first weapons we received early on when we started at 8:30 two of them came up stolen."
John Luce was among the 200 plus citizens who showed up.
"Just turning in a weapon, even just a few guns is a good way of getting them off the streets," he said.
As Luce was turning over his weapon, other gun owners were wheeling and dealing in the parking lot.
Adam Rodriguez sold several of his weapons to other gun enthusiasts. He says this program might help, by getting weapons out of the house where their children, or out of an elderly person's house.
"As far as getting guns out of the hands of bad guys I don't think this is the type of program that is going to do that with any kind of effectiveness," he said.
City Councilman Steve Kozachik disagrees. He says the folks who held their own gun sales in front of TPD proved a point.
"Buying guns for cash and walking away with no background check if that just doesn't scream for legislation to fix that loop hole they couldn't have made that point any better for me," he said.
The weapons that were turned in will be melted down, and that has some people upset
U.S Customs ( Large cheese bust 230 pounds "contraband" ) Mexican cheese "thats right"
Posted: 01/09/2013 12:00:00 AM MST
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 230 pounds of "contraband queso" during the weekend at the Santa Teresa border crossing, officials with the agency said.
The Mexican cheese was seized after CBP officials determined the amount of cheese was apparently way too much for personal use and large enough to be deemed a commercial-size import.
The shipment could have been turned into thousands of quesadillas and enchiladas once it hit kitchens across America.
CBP officers found the cheese late Friday night inside three ice chests in a pickup driven by a man from Aurora, Colo. CBP officials said the 50-year-old man was order to pay a $300 fine.
The cheese was destroyed,
officials said.
"Individuals can import personal quantities of cheese -- something in the 10-pound range," Joane Thale-Lembo, CBP Santa Teresa port director said in a statement. "This shipment certainly exceeded that quantity and was therefore seized and destroyed."
CBP officials did not disclose the type of cheese that was seized, but it appeared to be asadero, which can also be used on nachos, salads, burritos, chiles rellenos, chile con queso and hundreds of popular recipes.
Officials said the cheese was destroyed either in an incinerator or a garbage disposal device -- which would make it either melted cheese or shredded cheese.

Police shoot, kill driver with 5-year-old in front seat
Posted: Jan 8, 2013 10:30 AM by Associated Press
PHOENIX - Phoenix authorities say a 5-year-old boy was found in a car's front passenger seat after police fired at the vehicle and fatally shot the driver.
Sgt. Trent Crump says the motorist evaded a traffic stop late Monday night after he appeared to be impaired.
Crump says officers later shot at the car and killed the driver after the vehicle struck a brick wall at a home and the man tried to drive off - first in one direction toward officers and then in another direction toward a different officer.
Crump says the boy discovered in the car was not hurt.
No identities have been released.
