FBI News ( Kentucky Senator McConnell under investigation - Dirty pool ) Ashley Judd

FBI Investigating Alleged Bugging of Republican Senator’s Office

WASHINGTON – The FBI said on Tuesday that it is “looking into” who may have bugged Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office and taped him at a private meeting with members of his reelection campaign discussing strategies to discredit a possible election rival.

“I can only confirm that we were contacted by Sen. McConnell’s office and that we are looking into those accusations,” Mary Trotman, an FBI spokesperson in Louisville, Kentucky, told Efe.

On the tape of the Feb. 2, 2013, campaign strategy meeting, which was released on Tuesday by Mother Jones magazine, McConnell and his campaign committee members are heard discussing ways to discredit actress Ashley Judd, who at the time was considering challenging McConnell’s reelection bid for his Kentucky Senate seat in 2014.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Last week, Judd decided not to run for the seat and, for now, McConnell’s reelection campaign has not presented any proof that the tape recording was the result of illegal bugging.

McConnell and members of his campaign staff are heard on the tape discussing tactics they could use to hurt Judd’s candidacy, including pointing up her past struggles with depression and her religious opinions.

A source close to the campaign, however, told the daily Politico that they are presuming that “a crime was committed” because “nobody in that meeting leaked this.”

An unidentified voice on the tape can be heard saying that Judd is “emotionally unbalanced,” had shown evidence of “suicidal tendencies” and “was hospitalized for 42 days when she had a mental breakdown in the ‘90s.”

McConnell’s campaign says that the tape was not leaked by any insider and the senator himself accused “the political left” of resorting to “quite a Nixonian move” to get confidential information.

In remarks to reporters on Tuesday, McConnell said that the alleged illegal tape shows “what the political left does these days.”

McConnell complained to reporters that last month, leaders on the left attacked the ethnic origin of his wife and were listening in to conversations in his campaign headquarters. The Senate Republican leader refused to respond to reporters’ questions about his alleged strategy against Judd.

McConnell’s second wife is Elaine Chao, the former labor secretary under George W. Bush and the first Asian American woman to serve in the Cabinet. EFE

Indians Lynch Suspected Criminal in Southeast Mexico

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS, Mexico – A man was beaten and set on fire by a mob for allegedly robbing a taxi outside San Juan Chamula, a city in southeastern Mexico, prosecutors said.

The incident occurred Sunday night in the Tzotzil Indian community of Bechijtic, located about five kilometers (3.1 miles) from San Cristobal de Las Casas, the Chiapas state Attorney General’s Office said.

The suspected criminal “lost his life as a result of the wounds caused by blunt objects and burns all over his body,” the AG’s office said in a statement.

Three subjects robbed and beat a taxi driver in Bechijtic around 8:45 p.m. Sunday and fled the scene, investigators said.

The taxi driver asked residents for help and a mob chased the three men, capturing one of the subjects.

The man was taken to the community, where the mob attacked him and set him on fire, the AG’s office said.

Investigators are trying to identify the assailants, the AG’s office said. EFE

Police are investigating how Evelyn Clarke, who worked for the Dubai-based Emirates Airlines, came to fall to her death in the early hours of Monday morning. There was no immediate claim of foul play.
Social media sites were full of tributes to her yesterday, with a special Facebook memorial page set up to honour her.
"I can't believe you're gone," wrote Kay Anderson. "Loved the way you laughed in the face of anything bad that was thrown at you. You had life's priorities in the right order, family and friends but most of all love. You are an inspiration to so many people."
The page described her as "always smiling, always happy. She wanted to travel the world and see as much as possible, she couldn't get enough of it. Her positive attitude and energy could light up the whole sky."
On Twitter, Natalie Gibson said: "Sometimes things knock you for 6, another beautiful person taken from us, sleep peacefully sweetheart."
She is thought to have fallen from a high-rise building in Bur Dubai in the centre of the city. Two months ago, Abbie Elson, 27, a British woman on her honeymoon, died after falling from a five-star hotel in Dubai.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Dubai and we are providing consular assistance at this sad time."

Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Mohammad Sadegh Najafi and Mojtaba Najafi, brothers charged with creating a website in support of political prisoners and the Mourning Mothers of Laleh Park, were summoned to appear at Branch 5 of Abuzar Court in the Ariashahr area of Tehran.
According to sources of CHRR, Mohammad and Mojtaba Najafi established a computer services company that operated a website called Mam-e Mihan (original homeland) and distributed political CD’s. Due to their activities they were identified and put under surveillance by security forces.
On March 9, 2010, agents from the Ministry of Intelligence raided the residence of the brothers in an attempt to detain them but were not successful because the brothers were not home at the time. However during the raid, the agents confiscated various personal items belonging to the brothers such as their computers, books, CD’s, and satellite dish. After being unsuccessful in detaining the brothers at that time, the agents went to their place of work, sealed off the computer services company and confiscated personal property.

Saudi Arabia ( The Saudi Justice Ministry denied reports of man being paralyzed for punishment)

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's Justice Ministry has denied reports that a judge sentenced a young man to be surgically paralyzed in retribution for stabbing a friend who was also left unable to move.

The case was originally reported in local media and prompted outrage from governments and human rights groups around the world, bringing renewed scrutiny to an Islamic legal system that has no sentencing guidelines or system of precedent in determining punishments.
"The ministry would like to announce that this is utterly incorrect, and in fact the judicial ruling was contrary to that. The judge had shied away from demanding this punishment," the ministry said on its official Twitter feed on Monday.
The ministry issued a series of tweets on the subject, but did not reveal what the man's sentence had in fact been.
The Saudi Gazette reported last month the man had been ordered to pay $270,000 or be paralyzed for a crime he had committed 10 years earlier when he was 14 years old.
He had reportedly stabbed a school friend who was paralyzed as a result.
Human rights group Amnesty International described the reported sentence as "torture".
The kingdom's sharia justice system gives judges extensive leeway to reach verdicts and award sentences based on their own interpretation of the law. Capital punishment is common, and can be applied for crimes ranging from murder and armed robbery to drug smuggling and witchcraft.
