PORT ANGELES, Wash. —
Investigators said a man in Port Angeles angry over new construction near his home went on a rampage and drove a bulldozer into three houses trying to destroy them.
The incident happened on Highway 101 at North Baker Street.
A resident in the area told the Peninsula Daily News that the man took a piece of logging equipment and "just went nuts."
Keith Haynes, who lives near one of the damaged homes, told the newspaper that a woman inside one of the homes escaped unharmed.
Authorities arrested 51-year-old Barry Swegle.
According to investigators, Swegle was angry with several neighbors over fence lines he felt were too close to his home.
One neighbor, Judith Walters, saw the bulldozer go through a home.
“I saw a tractor, out of control, I thought. And it plowed into the white house over here,” said Walters. "And she was in the doorway with her dog, her little Chihuahua and yeah, I was screaming at her at the top of my lungs, 'Get out of the house!'"
Walters saw Swegle repeatedly slam into the home.
Gary Blevins told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News he has known Swegle since he was a boy, and has been concerned about his behavior for years.
“It makes my heart sad that he pulled anything like this,” Blevins said. "I even told the neighbor one time, I said, 'You better watch him.'"
Chopper 7 flew over the scene, where a power pole was down, homes were gutted or damaged, and a truck was flattened.
Video showed a fence was twisted and broken, belongings were strewn outside homes, and a boat was ripped from its trailer.
The state Department of Transportation said the downed power pole caused power and traffic signals in the area to go out.
Highway 101 was closed for a time but has since reopened. Some power was restored.
According to the Clallam County Public Utility District, power was restored to most except about 200 Gales Addition customers, who will be affected by an extended outage.
The outage is expected to go on late into Friday evening or early Saturday morning.
All customers on South Mt. Angeles will experience a brief outage as well.
Customers up Golf Course Road, along Ennis and Pioneer, Roll-Inn Trailer Par and the area West of Gales will be without power into the evening, said officials with the PUD

Mexican Officials Abuse Authority on Behalf of Boss’s Daughter

MEXICO CITY – Four federal officials will be suspended for having tried to shut down a capital restaurant after their boss’s daughter was denied the table of her choice at the establishment, the office of Mexico’s inspector general said.

What has become known as the “Lady Profeco” case caused widespread irritation at the unwarranted use of political influence, and led to an order by President Enrique Peña Nieto to investigate the incident and penalize those responsible.

The incident occurred on April 26, when Andrea Benitez, daughter of the head of the Profeco consumer protection agency, Humberto Benitez, was denied the table she wanted at the restaurant because it had already been reserved by other diners.

After several threats by the young woman, Profeco officials arrived on the scene to paste up stickers saying the restaurant’s activities were suspended, to the surprise of both the owners and diners.

The inspector general’s office announced that four senior Profeco officials have been suspended “temporarily.”

“We must point out that the investigation did not turn up any elements that would lead to charges against” Humberto Benitez, the official note said.

Benitez subsequently held a press conference in which he insisted that he was notified after the operation took place, that he had not ordered or authorized it, and that his only responsibility was as a parent.

The official, who had already apologized publicly for the incident, recalled that on the day it occurred he was recovering from hip surgery. EFE

Malcolm X’s Grandson Dies in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – The grandson of U.S. political activist Malcolm X died at a Mexico City hospital of injuries received during an altercation, authorities said Friday.

An investigation is under way into the homicide of 29-year-old Malcolm Shabazz, the capital district attorney’s office said.

The U.S. Embassy had earlier issued a statement about the death of an American citizen in Mexico City, but withheld the deceased’s name at the request of the family.

Shabazz died in the wee hours of Thursday after being brought to a hospital emergency room from Plaza Garibaldi, a popular site for tourists, the DA’s office said.

The victim arrived at the hospital with injuries that appeared to be the result of a beating, according to the official statement, which said Shabazz and a friend had been drinking beer at a bar.

Malcolm’s mother, Qubilah Shabazz, was one of six daughters of Malcolm X and his wife, Betty Shabazz.

Qubilah was only 4 years old when she witnessed her father’s 1965 assassination in New York.

In August 1997, then-12-year-old Malcolm Shabazz was sentenced to 18 months in juvenile detention for starting a fire that resulted in the death of grandmother Betty Shabazz. EFE

INDIA Mumbai ( Young parents drop off newborn boy for Surgery- Then abandoned child )

Monster parents flee while 3-day-old son undergoes surgery
Mumbai: Parents of a three-day-old baby boy suffering from a congenital defect abandoned their child in the civic-run Sion hospital on Wednesday morning. The child was suffering from a defect known as imperforate anus, which occurs in one out of 5,000 infants.

Doctors at the hospital said that the newborn boy, Roshan Kumar Mohato, was admitted in the paediatric ward of the hospital on Tuesday evening by his parents Pramod and Bharati Mahato, who hail from the Mangaon taluka in Raigad district. The infant then underwent surgery for the defect. "On Tuesday night, the infant underwent a colostomy, a surgical procedure in which an opening is formed at the end of the large intestine or colon through an incision. After this he was shifted to the ICU of the paediatric ward," said Dr Avinash Supe, dean of Sion hospital.

While Roshan was recuperating in the ICU, his parents slipped out of the hospital, and didn't return. They were last seen outside the paediatric surgery ward, said a doctor. Roshan will be recuperating in the ICU of the paediatric ward for two more weeks until he fully recovers from the surgery. "His condition is stable, and he weighs 1.8 kg. The hospital staff are taking care of him, and the child is guarded at all times," said Dr Supe.
Even though the hospital authorities were informed about the incident on Wednesday, a complaint is yet to be filed at Sion police station. A sub-inspector from the station said that no such case has been filed with them yet. Dr Supe revealed that the hospital's CCTV cameras hadn't captured any footage of the parents fleeing the hospital premises. "We don't have CCTV cameras in every ward of the hospital; there are no cameras near that ward," he said.

Beyond reach

MiD DAY managed to get hold of the mobile number registered with the hospital by the parents, but it turned out to be a fake one. The mobile number 7709XXXX62 belonged to a Suraj Mahji (34), a labourer in Jalgaon district. He had no idea who Pramod Mahato was, or where Sion hospital is. The on-duty resident doctor present in the paediatric ward of the hospital added that Roshan's parents were a young couple in their early 20s.

San Diego ( Bald eagle hatches in Ramona grasslands )

— A pair of bald eagles that has been nesting in a tree in the Ramona grasslands since late last year have hatched a single chick, the Wildlife Research Institute announced Thursday.
The discovery was made last weekend while researchers were conducting an annual countywide golden eagle count and flew over the bald eagle nest and took photographs with a high-powered lens, said Chris Meador, the institute’s assistant director.
One unhatched egg was also spotted in the nest, but Meador said it is probably infertile.
The chick appears healthy, well-fed, and probably a month old, he said.
Only two pairs of nesting bald eagles are known to exist in the county. However, Meador said, reports are increasing of bald eagle sightings in many parts of the county, including in the Lake Hodges area. The other nesting pair have resided near Lake Henshaw on Vista Irrigation District land for several years.
The Ramona grasslands eagles’ nest is about one mile from the institute’s headquarters, which sits in the middle of the grasslands area.
Meador said the Ramona bald eagles have been spotted capturing and feeding on squirrels, which is rare. Usually, he said, bald eagles eat fish, but no lakes are near the nest.
“We’re very happy to see them adapting to their environment,” Meador said.
The Ramona eagles have also been seen preying on water fowl.
The institute has asked people to not approach or go anywhere near the nest, but it can be observed from Rangeland Road.
