Mexican Judge Orders Trial for Suspects in Killing of Malcolm X’s Grandson

MEXICO CITY – A Mexican judge has ordered the two waiters accused of killing Malcolm Shabazz, the grandson of U.S. political activist Malcolm X, to stand trial, the District Attorney’s Office said.

David Hernandez Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Perez, both 24, will be tried on homicide and robbery charges under a ruling issued Saturday by Judge Hector Palomares, the DA’s office said.

Attorneys for the two suspects, who worked as waiters at The Palace Club on the Plaza Garibaldi, will have three days to appeal the ruling.

District Attorney Rodolfo Fernando Rios said last Monday that Hernandez Cruz and Perez had been arrested for the killing.

The two suspects and two other men allegedly beat Shabazz in the early morning hours of May 9 after he refused to pay a $1,200 bar tab, the DA said.

The 29-year-old Shabazz died a few hours later at a hospital emergency room “as a result of the trauma from being beaten with a large blunt object,” Rios said.

Investigators determined that Shabazz arrived in Mexico City from Tijuana, a border city in northwestern Mexico, along with a person whose identity is not being disclosed because they are considered a victim, Rios said.

Shabazz’s companion, a Mexican, was robbed and threatened but managed to get out of the bar alive, DA’s office spokesmen said.

Malcolm’s mother, Qubilah Shabazz, was one of six daughters of Malcolm X and his wife, Betty Shabazz.

Qubilah was only 4 when she witnessed her father’s 1965 assassination in New York.

In August 1997, the then-12-year-old Malcolm Shabazz was sentenced to 18 months in juvenile detention for starting a fire that resulted in the death of grandmother Betty Shabazz.

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Heydari and Kourosh Ahmadi have been hanged in Evin prison on charge of enmity against the God.

Mohammad Heydari and Kourosh Ahmadi, the two political prisoners who were known as the enemies of the God and sentenced to death by the revolutionary court, were hanged.

Fars News Agency claimed in his report that these two prisoners had relationship with the enemy governments and they were spying against the interests of the Islamic Republic.

This report adds that after the investigations were finished, the case was sent to the Tehran revolutionary court and after the trial they were known as the enemies of the God and sentenced to death. The sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Court.

No independent source confirms these claims and there is no news about their arrest and trial process.

“Your dog, however, can walk side by side, your dog is allowed to have its own dog house… you can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff – none of the women have that advantage,” Simmons stated.

Simmons said that the United Nations approach was not effective, suggesting that the west has to “speak softly and carry a big stick.”

A Florida man was shot and wounded over the weekend by his dog, who walked away without charges, police said.
Gregory Dale Lanier, 35, of Frostproof, Fla., told police Saturday that he and his dog were in their truck in nearby Sebring when the dog kicked a gun that was on the truck’s floor, the Highlands Tribune newspaper reported.
The gun went off, shooting Lanier in the leg, Sebring police said.
Lanier wasn’t seriously injured, said Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr, who actually said police didn’t arrest the dog because the investigation was pending, the Tribune reported.
He also said he had never heard of a similar case.
According to the police report, Lanier said he was driving along State Road 17 North when the dog kicked “the unloaded .380 pistol.” It went on to say that Lanier was “surprised” to learn not only that the gun was loaded, but also that it was actually a 9mm weapon, not a .380.

A woman in the northern Colombian city of Barranquilla has given birth to a baby on a sidewalk, local newspaper El Heraldo reported Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, the woman was seen bleeding between her legs while walking through the Paraiso neighborhood in the north of the city.
Witnesses told the newspaper that by the time a woman approached the unidentified woman, the baby’s head already had come out of his mother’s vagina.
Neighbors immediately got the woman a plastic chair to finish giving birth to the boy. A nurse who happened to be nearby assisted the woman.
An ambulance arrived in minutes. Ambulance personnel cut the baby’s umbilical chord and transported the newly born and his mother to a nearby hospital.
A local physician told the newspaper the woman appeared to be suffering psychological issues and the baby appeared in good health.

HRANA News Agency – According to a report by Fars, M-T who was charged with murder has been hanged in public in Noshahr in the presence of persecutor of Noshahr, Police commander of this city, the prison chief, a representative of Forensics and the family of the killed one.

The general and revolutionary persecutor of Noshahr said to the journalists: “A person with the name of M-T who had killed Arsalan Sheykh Abbasi in a fight with knife, was arrested and after the case of complete the Criminal Court of Mazandaran province sentenced him to death.”
