BOGOTA Colombia ( DEA Agent Murdered During Robbery in Colombia )

BOGOTA – A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent was murdered in Bogota during a robbery attempt that occurred as he was riding in a taxi, Colombian officials said Friday.

The DEA agent was killed Thursday night in Parque de la 93, a popular nightlife and restaurant district in the Colombian capital.

The agent was fatally stabbed as he got into a taxi after watching Game 7 of the NBA Finals on television at a restaurant.

U.S. Ambassador to Colombia Peter Michael McKinley confirmed Friday that the DEA agent died, but he did not identify the victim.

Media reports, however, identified the slain DEA agent as James Perry Watson.

“What has been established in the past few hours working hand in hand with the police and the community in Parque de la 93 is that everything points to a robbery that ended in tragedy,” the ambassador told RCN radio.

The victim was a “DEA official” who went to eat at a restaurant with friends to watch the basketball game and took a taxi when he left the establishment, McKinley said.

A 52-year-old mother who 'dressed like a teenager' to sit her daughter's end of term English exam has been arrested in France.
The middle-aged woman wore low-waisted skinny jeans and Converse shoes to sit the English language baccalaureate in Paris.
But a sharp-eyed invigilator who had seen the 19-year-old daughter taking her philosophy paper a week earlier realised the woman was an imposter and called police.

She was arrested when the exam ended so as not to disturb other students taking the paper this week, a Paris police spokesman said.
He added: 'The mother was dressed in the casual clothes a typical teenager would wear.

India ( Elephant that been lying injured and battling for its life -Needs help ) Sad

This is Mumbai.
About 20 million people live here.
So this morning, when we go to see the elephant that been lying injured and battling for its life for over four days, we’re expecting at least twenty people.

Nada.
There are four people there.
This elephant’s been made to beg, entertain, walk to weddings for over 50 years.
This elephant is beautiful. And in so much pain.
She’s been abused and overworked. She’s got wounds on her legs, and maggots eating into those wounds. Her eyes are closed. She eats when the pain isn’t too much. And she keeps trying to get up, but just can’t.
This elephant will die. And not just because her owners didn’t care. But because we didn’t care.
So what can you do:
Animals Matter To Me, an NGO that works for animals, has written consent from the owners, stating that the elephant will now be under the care of AMTM for the next 4 months.
But ATMM needs the following things:
1. A vet with knowledge of treating injured elephants. From any part of the country. A contact number, a lead or any information would help.
2. Someone who can help transport Bijlee to the Animal Hospital in Parel. A crane has been coming in every day. But she’s too weak to stand, and the ropes are not being able to hold her up. A specialized crew who has some idea of transporting large animals would help. Again, any information, any leads would help.
3. Volunteers. Today there were 5 people there. And they need help, to run around, to put pressure on the system, to mobilize support, to organize food, to find vets…you get the drift. Please come. If we have 50,000 people there, we can create a noise and put pressure on the system. Hopefully, some politician or even the state government will come forward.
4. Donate: Generously. Bijlee needs food and medicines. Every little bit you can contribute will help save this magnificent creature. And I believe you get a tax exemption. Even more reason to donate.
It’s raining. They are trying to build a shed. In the meantime she’s covered with black tarpaulin, so her wounds don’t get worse.
If she dies, shame on every one of us. If we can’t save one elephant, how will we save our city, our forests, our rivers, our mountains.

Iran Human Rights, June 19: One prisoner was hanged in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj reported the Iranian daily newspaper Javan.
According to the report the prisoner who was identified as "Majid" was convicted of shooting to death another man on August 6 2006 in Tehran.
Iran Human Rights’ sources reported that the prisoner who was hanged in Rajai Shahr Prison yesterday morning was "Seyed Majid Afzali" about 36 years of age from ward 6 of Rajai Shahr Prison.
According to Javan, three other death row prisoners who were convicted of murder and scheduled to be executed yesterday, were pardoned by the families of the offended. According to the Iranian Islamic Penal Code murder is sentenced by retribution and the family of the offended can ask for blood money or pardon the offender.

New Delhi ( A woman allegedly drowned both her children and then hung herself )

New Delhi: A woman allegedly drowned both her children and then hung herself at her home here, police said Wednesday. No suicide note was found.
Sarita, 30, first drowned her six-year-old daughter Parihar in a washing machine tub and then drowned her 11-month-old son Rudrakhsa in a water bucket, before hanging herself from the ceiling fan on the first floor of their two-storey house in east Delhi’s Mandawali area, said a police officer.
Her elderly mother-in-law was on the ground floor at that time, police said.
Sarita was depressed due to a family dispute. She had a heated argument late Tuesday with his husband Devendra Yadav, who works in a export house at Patparganj.
Her husband discovered the bodies. He was questioned, said police.

They got married in 2005. Rudraksha’s birthday was in this week and he was going to complete the age of one year, a neighbour said.
“Today (Wednesday) Devendra Yadav went his office without the breakfast. In the noon, Sarita called Devendra and said that she is going to kill herself,” said the officer.
On returning from office, Yadav found the door of the house bolted from inside. When no one answered the door despite repeated knocks, he broke in and found the three bodies.
“It appears like suicide as the door was locked from inside but we are looking at all the angles,” the officer said.

Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Leftist student Arash Mohammadi who was detained following the elections on June 15th at a gathering in Tabriz, launched a hunger strike on Monday June 17th.

According to CHRR, on the eve of June 16, 2013, plain clothed agents attacked a gathering in Tabriz, severely beat up some of the attendees and violently arrested about 20 people including Arash Mohammadi and Amir Nazeri. The arrested were transferred to the quarantine section of Tabriz prison.

After the arrests, Ministry of Intelligence agents raided the home of student activist Arash Mohammadi, conducted a search and confiscated personal items including his books.

Some of the detainees were later released on 10 million Tomans bail posted by their families, per orders of Branch 2 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Hashemzadeh.

Arash Mohammadi had been arrested before on November 3, 2010, when security agents raided his home at 6 am and conducted a search of his residence. The agents detained Arash and his brother Siavash Mohammadi, and transferred them to the Tabriz Ministry of Intelligence headquarters where they were held for 66 days in “temporary detention” before being released on bail.

Judge Hamlbar presiding over Branch 1 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Arash and his brother each to one year and 3 months in prison. On September 16, 2011 when the brothers went to Tabriz prison to pursue their case file, they were arrested and transferred to prison to serve their sentences.

Arash Mohammadi was released from prison on January 10, 2013 after completing his one-year sentence behind bars.
