Iran ( Woman disqualified for being to " Pretty " in Iran Election ) What ??

Sunday, 18 August 2013
.
Good looks do not always open doors: the female winner of city elections in the Iranian city of Qazvin was disqualified after the council's leader proclaimed "We don't want catwalk models here".

Mohabat News -  Nina Siahkali Moradi came 14th out of 163 candidates in the election, which should have granted her a stand-by seat on the city council. Election officials overturned her appointment on the grounds that the 27-year-old was "not observing Islamic codes". In her campaign material, Siahkali wears the statutory hijab: only her face is visible.

Siahkali, who campaigned under the banner 'A Younger Mind for the Future of Youth', learnt of her disqualification a week after the elections took place on June 14, the same day as Iran's presidential elections. Candidates are allowed to run only if they pass a multitude of detailed background checks by the judiciary, intelligence ministry, police and National Organisation for Civil Registration. It is unusual for candidates to be disqualified after elections; 'unsuitable' candidates do not normally make it through the initial background checks.
.
According to her website, Siahkali studied architecture, is trained in Kung Fu and is a member of Qazvin's Calligraphy Council. France 24 attempted to interview Siahkali, her campaign team and the election monitoring commission. No one, however, was available for an interview.

Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Reza Akvanian, writer and human rights activist who was accused of organizing protests, was detained across the parliament building on August 13 by security agents. He is held in Evin prison and under severe mental and physical pressure.
According to CHRR, Reza Akvanian was among a group who were staging a peaceful sit-in in front of the parliament building in protest of the controversial and offensive remarks that had been made by parliament member Mr. Bozorgvari. About 15 people were detained and transferred to Evin prison in a black van out of which all have been released besides Reza Akvanian and his cousin Taher Akvanian.
Some of the released protestors have shared that they could hear the screams and cries of Reza Akvanian during his interrogations and witnesses in the prison saw him with a bloodied nose.
Reza Akvanian is a writer for the blog “salhaye khoobe zendegi” (life’s good years) who was first detained on February 1, 2010 by agents from the Ministry of Intelligence. Judge Tahmasabi presiding over Branch 1 of the Yasuj Revolutionary Court handed Akvanian a one-year prison sentence and a 5-year suspended term on the charges of “insulting the leader and the president in blog content” and “association with outsiders by sharing news reports.”
Security agents detained this human rights activist again on Sunday March 24, 2013 at approximately 3am at his residence. The agents violently raided his home and after conducting a massive search they confiscated Akvanian’s personal items such as his laptop computer, external drive, scanner, printer, mobile phone, and his writings. Akvanian was held incommunicado for the first 2 weeks while detained and his family had no knowledge of his condition or whereabouts. When his family was finally able to see him, they reported visible signs of bruising from interrogations on his body. He was released 17 days later on a 100 million Toman bail from the Central Prison of the city of Yasuj on Wednesday, April 10

DUBAI ( An American al Qaeda militant has called for more attacks on the United States )

DUBAI (Reuters) - An American al Qaeda militant has called for more attacks on Western diplomats in the Arab world, praising the killers of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on September 11 last year, a U.S.-based monitoring group said on Sunday.
Western nations shut embassies across the Middle East and North Africa early this month, after a warning of a possible militant attack. Many have reopened, and Britain said its Yemen embassy would open on Sunday after being closed for 12 days.

Adam Gadahn, a California-born convert to Islam with a $1 million U.S. price on his head, appealed to wealthy Muslims to offer militants rewards to kill ambassadors in the region, citing bounty set for killing the U.S. ambassador to Yemen, Washington-based SITE monitoring group said.
"These prizes have a great effect in instilling fear in the hearts of our cowardly enemies," Gadahn said in the 39-minute video recording in Arabic posted on websites used by Islamist militants, according to SITE.
"They also encourage hesitant individuals to carry out important and great deeds in the path of Allah," he said, in an English transcript on SITE
