Panama ( COPS shoot and Kill 2 yr old boy and wound girl at a Check Point )

PANAMA CITY – Panama’s National Police said Thursday that three of its officers are under investigation for a shooting incident that left a 2-year-old boy dead and a teenage girl badly wounded.

“We are waiting for scientific results on the various indicators, such as shell casings and bullets, which will be compared with the (officers’) firearms,” homicide division chief Rafael Santiago told a press conference.

The shooting occurred Wednesday at a police checkpoint on the Panamerican highway some 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of Panama City.

For reasons unknown, some officers at the checkpoint fired shots at a car carrying a couple from India and their two children.

The boy died, while his 15-year-old sister remains in serious condition at Santo Tomas Hospital in the capital.

Initial findings indicate the shots were fired by plainclothes officers, Santiago said, adding that no weapons were found inside the Indian family’s car.

The internal police probe is being conducted in parallel with an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, National Police director Julio Molto said.

The checkpoint was set up based on an “alert involving an automobile with similar characteristics” to the one driven by the Indian family,” Molto said.

Mexico ( 15 yr old boy - Killed for cell phone and sneakers "waiting at bus stop " )

MEXICO CITY – Authorities in the Mexican capital expressed indignation Wednesday about the killing of a 15-year-old boy who refused to hand over his cellphone to an assailant.

“It is a deed that really shocks and outrages,” Maricela Contreras, chief of the Mexico City borough of Tlalpan, told MVS radio.

Miguel Angel, who had bought the cellphone last week with money earned working in his uncle’s landscaping business, died Tuesday of a knife wound to the chest.

The young man was accosted at 6:30 a.m. while waiting for a bus to take him to school.

After stabbing Miguel, the assailant took the phone and the teen’s sneakers.

Miguel Angel died just 50 meters (164 feet) from his home in Tlalpan and the family learned of his death from a sidewalk vendor who witnessed the crime.

Investigators have no leads on the identity of the killer, Contreras told MVS.

The borough administration in Tlalpan has been working to improve safety for young people, but results are slow in coming, Contreras said.

While this sprawling metropolis of 20 million promotes itself to potential visitors as a “Safe City,” the Mexican capital has been rocked in recent months by high-profile crimes, including the kidnapping and subsequent murder of 12 people and the killing of a Colombian man by police.

Behzad Taalipasand and Mehdi Reza Omidi (Youhan) were detained on 31 December 2012 during a crackdown on house churches by the Iranian government.
Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), said: “The sentences handed down to these members of the Church of Iran effectively criminalise the Christian sacrament of sharing in the Lord’s Supper and constitute an unacceptable infringement on the right to practice faith freely and peaceably. We urge the Iranian authorities to ensure that the nation's legal practices and procedures do not contradict its international obligation under the International Convent on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to guarantee the full enjoyment of freedom of religion or belief by all of its religious communities.”
