India ( Gang Rape and Murder suspect beaten up in prison and poisoned )

The lawyer of one of the accused in the Delhi gangrape alleged on Wednesday that his client was beaten up and poisoned in jail and has been admitted in hospital.
The Hindu quoted AP Singh as saying Vinay Sharma, 20, was admitted to the LNJP Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday with chest injuries after being “thrashed and beaten” by inmates at Tihar Jail.

Singh had on 8 May told the court that he had apprehensions that his client was being poisoned.
“He was vomiting blood and running a very high fever. He was also suffering from chest pains. He is in a very critical condition,” AFP quoted Singh as saying.
Sharma had earlier alleged that his hand had been fractured as a result of being beaten by prison inmates. The court had dismissed the allegation after going through CCTV footage of the prison premises.
The Hindu reported that Sharma had been admitted to a hospital near Tihar Jail on 4 May and was transferred to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital after the court ordered authorities to provide proper treatment.
Accused Vinay Sharma and three others — Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh — are on trial for the brutal gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student and attack on her friend on the night of 16 December. The fifth accused is a juvenile and facing trial before a juvenile justice board.
