MOSCOW (Punk ROCK band members get 2 years in JAIL ) For protesting

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Two female members of Russian punk group Pussy Riot convicted of protesting against President Vladimir Putin in a cathedral have been sent to prisons far from Moscow despite requesting to serve out their terms in the capital, a lawyer said on Monday.
Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, were convicted of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred" in August and sentenced to two years in jail, a punishment that many in the West said was too harsh.

Their stunt - bursting into Moscow's main Russian Orthodox Cathedral to urge the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Putin - infuriated the church and many Russians. But Kremlin critics said their trial was part of a crackdown on dissent orchestrated by Putin, who began a six-year presidential term in May.
The two women lost their appeals on October 10.
The women's lawyers said they had tried to argue that they should be allowed to remain in jail in Moscow, saying it would have permitted them to be closer to their small children. They had also cited health and safety concerns at far-flung penal colonies.

RUSSELL Means ( AIM Leader past away ) Throat cancer

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Russell Means never shunned attention. Whether leading Native Americans in railing against broken federal treaties, appearing in a Hollywood blockbuster or advocating a sovereign American Indian nation within U.S. borders, the activist who helped lead the 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee reveled in the spotlight.
But it was only on his terms. Openly critical of mainstream media, the onetime leader of the American Indian Movement often refused interviews and verbally blasted journalists who showed up to cover his public appearances. Instead, he chose to speak to his fan base through YouTube videos and blog posts on his personal website.

When he did speak out publicly, he remained steadfast in his defense of AIM. He found himself dogged for decades by questions about the group's alleged involvement in the slaying of a tribe member and the several gun battles with federal officers during the 71-day occupation of Wounded Knee, but denied the group ever promoted violence.

"You people who want to continue to put AIM in this certain pocket of illegality, I can't stand you people," Means said, lashing out an at audience member question during an April gathering commemorating the uprising's 40th anniversary. "I wish I was a little bit healthier and a little bit younger, because I wouldn't just talk."

Means, who announced in August 2011 that he had developed inoperable throat cancer but told The Associated Press he was forgoing mainstream medical treatments in favor of traditional American Indian remedies, died early Monday at his ranch in in Porcupine, S.D., Oglala Sioux Tribe spokeswoman Donna Salomon said. He was 72

One of the light rail riders caught the whole thing on tape.

The man who took the video was taking the light rail home from a night of partying in Tempe.

Juan Vargas took the video, just inches from the sword.

"I kinda took a step back first so I could get back a little more and I just gotta keep recording this because I don't know what's gonna happen," said Vargas.

"As soon as that guy pulled out the sword, everybody was like,'Whoa'. It got really quiet and everybody was like 'Okay..okay, I guess don't do nothing to get him mad or don't upset him," said Vargas.

That was the agenda for the 50 or so passengers aboard a charter Silver State Trailways bus on Friday. But as the bus was returning from the Grand Canyon that evening, investigators said something went terribly wrong.
As the bus traveled northbound on Highway 93 and approached the Nevada state line, the driver suffered a medical episode and lost control of the bus, authorities said.
"We believe the driver experienced some sort of the medical condition and he just went off the road," the Arizona Highway Patrol said in a statement. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred on the main highway leading to the Hoover Dam.
The vehicle hit a ravine, tore up a small hill, then bounced and lurched over rough terrain for more than 700 feet before stopping, investigators said. Its front end was damaged, but the bus remained upright.
Silver State Trailways said their driver, whose name has not been released, may have suffered a heart attack.
The driver died and 48 passengers, mostly from Asia and Europe, were injured, authorities said. The six most seriously hurt were flown by helicopter to Las Vegas, where University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said they were being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, such as broken bones and lacerations. She described them as being mostly over 50 years old.

LOS ANGELES ( 82 yr old woman gets 6 Years in PRISON ) Rap Sheet

LOS ANGELES — An 82-year-old woman whose rap sheet goes back more than 50 years has been sentenced in Los Angeles to six years in state prison.
District attorney’s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons says Doris Ann Gamble was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of petty theft and admitting to four prior burglary convictions.

Authorities said the 5-foot-3 woman stole about $17,000 from doctors’ offices between March and August by hiding out until closing time, then pilfering from the cash drawers.
Gamble was arrested in August at a motel in Torrance after a police detective recognized her from a previous case as he looked at surveillance video.
Gamble, who has also gone by the name Doris Thompson and other aliases, has a criminal record dating back to 1955.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) — Searchers found the body of a young Oregon woman who vanished this week on her way to work and a neighbor has been arrested, Gresham police said late Friday night.
The body of Whitney Heichel, 21, was found on Larch Mountain, a remote, forested area east of Gresham, Police Chief Craig Junginger told a news conference.
After collecting DNA and fingerprints and conducting three interviews over three days, police arrested Jonathan Holt, 24, of Gresham, for investigation of aggravated murder, the chief said.
Holt lived in the same apartment complex as Heichel and her husband.
The Starbucks barista reportedly left her apartment for work at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on a drive that typically takes less than five minutes.
Her husband, Clint, called police roughly three hours later. He told investigators he tried to reach Whitney multiple times after her boss alerted him that she never arrived for her 7 a.m. shift.
Police said Heichel's ATM card was used at a nearby Troutdale gas station at 9:14 a.m. Tuesday. Two hours later, her sport utility vehicle was found in a Wal-Mart parking lot with the passenger side window smashed.

COLORADO INMATES ( WORK in WOOD Shop ) Police should start here (Homicide case) Jessica Ridgeway

THE GAZETTE

CAÑON CITY • Sure, they’d rather be fishing.
That’s not an option when you’re locked up 24/7.
Instead, inmates serving time for sexual assault have to be contentmaking fishing rods. There aren’t many trout streams in prison.
Rods start at $80, but many of the custom bass-fly-spin-salmon-crank rods sell for $600 to $1,200 through the shop at Arrowhead Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison in Fremont County.
“It’s a coveted job,” inmate Mark Iverson said.
And time-consuming. It takes 80 to 100 hours to make some rods. The shop makes about 100 composite and 10 bamboo poles a year. The inmates also repair rods and tie flies.
For the prison, it’s cheap labor.

For the inmates, who earn a basic pay of about 60 cents a day, it’s a chance to learn a skill — and to dream.
The rod shop started three years ago at the suggestion of an Arrowhead inmate.
It is one of 55 work programs managed by Colorado Correctional Industries, or CCI, a self-funded division of the Colorado Department of Corrections.
About 1,700 inmates are employed in CCI programs. Inmates make credenzas, dorm furniture, file cabinets, conference tables, clothes, linens, trash bags and car tags. Some milk cows, train dogs and tame wild horses.

WOODEN Cross ( Clue in MURDER Case) Colorado Girl

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (Reuters) - Investigators probing the killing of a 10-year-old Colorado girl who was snatched as she walked to school and was later found dismembered said on Friday that a small wooden cross pendant recovered as evidence could be an important clue in the case.
Police in the Denver suburb of Westminster released photos of the distinctive solid-wood cross, which measures 1.5 inches by 1 inch. They did not say where it was found.
The announcement came as police indicated the killing of Jessica Ridgeway may be linked to a failed abduction of a 22-year-old woman jogger six months earlier at a lake near where the fifth grader was last seen.

"Police believe there may be a connection between the Jessica Ridgeway murder and the attempted abduction," police Inspector Trevor Materasso said in a statement, a day after police released a description of a suspect in that case.
"We urge the public to specifically look for someone with a cross like this that matches the suspect's description," the statement said.
The cross has a hole drilled into it that could indicate it was worn as a necklace, police said, urging any business that sells such a cross to contact police.
The woman who previously escaped abduction was grabbed from behind by a man who placed a rag with a chemical odor over her mouth, police said. They have described him as light-skinned with a medium build and brown hair, and put his age at 18 to 35.
Jessica Ridgeway vanished on October 5. Two days later, a man in a nearby town reported finding her backpack on a sidewalk in front of his house. The girl's dismembered remains were later found in a semi-rural park in another town about 10 miles from the Ridgeway home.

PINAL COUNTY Az (HUMAN smuggling 20 run from truck ) Vehicle Stop

PINAL COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Early morning pursuit leads Pinal County Sheriff's Office to an investigation into human smuggling.
Reports say the pursuit began after a PCSO deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a truck near Steele Road and Highway 87. The driver never yielded to the officer and continued on, even after the deputy put on his emergency lights and siren, according to law enforcement officials.

The truck finally stopped; nearly a mile from the Coolidge Airport with 20 individuals getting out of the truck and running in different directions, according to reports. Additional members of PCSO, the U.S. Border Patrol, and officers from the Coolidge Police Department responded to the call to assist.
A search of the area turned up four individuals, who said they were part of a larger group of 20 that crossed the border into the U.S. illegally. When questioned further the four told officials they were from Durango, Mexico.
Officials say the four were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing, and the truck was impounded by PCSO.
In a statement released earlier today Sheriff Paul Babeu said,
"My deputies continue to do their job attempting to stop those who are involved with drug and human smuggling from traveling freely through the United States. Due to this current administration's policies, less than 15% of the illegals who are apprehended in the Tucson Sector ever get prosecuted for entering the United States illegally. This past

SAN DIEGO ( FBI arrested 2nd MAN in BOMBING Plot ) Federal Reserve Bank

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. authorities said a man arrested in San Diego on child pornography charges was linked to a plot by a Bangladeshi man to set off a bomb at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the New York Times reported.
The newspaper said Howard Willie Carter II was suspected of being an accomplice to Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, a Bangladeshi who was arrested in New York on Wednesday in a sting operation.

Nafis faces charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
The FBI said the public was not in danger because the 1,000-pound (450-kg) bomb provided to Nafis for his planned attack on Wednesday was not in working condition and the suspect was closely monitored by an undercover agent.
The Times said Carter was arrested after the FBI found 1,000 images of child pornography on a computer that was traced back to him in August. The computer also had emails addressed to "Yaqeen," a name authorities said Carter used in communicating with Nafis.
In conversations with undercover officials, Nafis mentioned Yaqeen as a conspirator and said he also had suggested a military base near Baltimore to attack, the Times said.
Nafis allegedly considered several targets for his attack, including the New York Stock Exchange and a high-ranking government official, who a U.S. official identified as President Barack Obama.

A trailer full of potato chips burned to a crisp during an early morning fire on the Northwest side.
The pickup truck hauling a trailer full of Poore Brothers chips caught fire while driving down Twin Peaks Road just east of Interstate 10 a little after 5 a.m., said Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District. The driver pulled over and safely got out of the truck.
Fire crews arrived within four minutes and found the 24-foot trailer and it’s $6,000 worth of potato chips blazing. The chips, destined for local grocery stores, were a total loss. Damage to the inventory, plus computer equipment and the trailer brought the estimated damage to $12,000, Goldberg said.
Traffic was impeded for almost an hour this morning because of the fire.
A mechanical failure with a trailer tire was the cause of the blaze

FBI ( BOMBER Caught before he KILLS many AMERICANS ) 21-year-old Bangladeshi national

The wannabee bomber was caught as part of an FBI sting operation that started when an agent first befriended the man in an online jihadist message board. Unnamed Sources told NBC the man was provided with a device undercover officers told him was a 1,000-pound bomb. The man then loaded the device into a van, which he parked Wednesday morning on Manhattan's Liberty Street, a few feet from the fortress-like Federal Reserve building.

Following the undercover agent's instructions, the man walked a few blocks to the lobby of the Millennium Hilton hotel, which faces directly into the World Trade Center site, and attempted to detonate the "bomb" using a cellphone. But, the "explosives that he allegedly sought and attempted to use had been rendered inoperable by law enforcement and posed no threat to the public," according to the U.S. Attorney's statement.
He was arrested on the spot by federal law enforcement.

TUCSON Az ( INMATE tried to escape from PRISON ) Stole Truck and crashed GATE

A Tucson inmate planned a prison escape worthy of a crime show episode, that is until he got caught.
Jimmy Odom, 47, who is serving a life sentence for murder, tried to escape at about 8:40 this morning from the Cimarron Unit at Tucson’s Arizona State Prison Complex on South Wilmot Road.
He assaulted a prison employee, stole a delivery truck and crashed through the unit’s interior fence before being stopped at the perimeter fence, said Bill Lamoreaux, an Arizona Department of Corrections spokeman.

The Inmate pulled a homemade "shank"or knife on the food service worker , a short fight took  place . There was some "blood was seen on the door of the truck" unknown who's blood it was.

Odom was tried in Coconino County for the 2001 murder of a Yuma man camping near Williams. Odom was convicted of first degree murder, burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping. His wife, Donna Lankford, also was convicted and is serving a life sentence at the Perryville complex in Goodyear.

O'BRIEN, Ore. (AP) — There's no room in the county jail for burglars and thieves. And the sheriff's department in a vast, rural corner of southwest Oregon has been reduced by budget cuts to three deputies on patrol eight hours a day, five days a week.
But people in this traditionally self-reliant section of timber country aren't about to raise taxes to put more officers on the road. Instead, some folks in Josephine County, larger than the state of Rhode Island, are taking matters into their own hands — mounting flashing lights on their trucks and strapping pistols to their hips to guard communities themselves. Others have put together a virtual neighborhood watch, using Facebook to share tips and information.
"I believe in standing up for myself rather than waiting for the government to do something for me," said Sam Nichols, a retired marina manager.
Nichols has organized a posse of about a dozen fed-up residents who have started patrolling the small community of O'Brien, which has about 750 residents.
"We call ourselves the CAC Patrol, Citizens Against Crime," he said.

DENVER ( 5 KILLED in BAR ) Fire set to cover up crime

A Denver bar erupted into flames early this morning after five people were believed to have been killed inside, police said today.
Police believe that a fire was set to the building to cover up the homicide that had taken place there, according to Commander Ron Saunier of the Denver police.

Saunier would not offer specifics on the type of trauma that killed the four women and one man found dead inside the burned out building of Fero's Bar & Grill. They were convinced, however, that none of the individuals died in the fire.
"We're not sure the exact nature of the trauma," Denver Police Chief Robert White told ABC News affiliate KMGH today.

(Reuters) - The top federal prosecutor in Massachusetts on Tuesday said federal agents raided the New England Compounding Center, the pharmacy linked to a meningitis outbreak that has killed 15 people and sickened more than 200 others.
U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz said: "I can confirm that this office and our law enforcement partners are investigating allegations concerning the New England Compounding Center."
On Tuesday afternoon, agents from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration searched the NECC facility in Framingham, Mass., while local police provided support, local police said.
In a statement, Ortiz said it was "premature" to say what the investigation will show.

PAKISTAN (Taliban call 14 yr old Girl 'SPY for the WEST ) Malala Yousufzai

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents said on Tuesday that the Pakistani schoolgirl its gunmen shot in the head deserved to die because she had spoken out against the group and praised U.S. President Barack Obama.
Malala Yousufzai, 14, was flown to Britain on Monday, where doctors said she has every chance of making a "good recovery".
The legend grows "the 14 yr old girl who fights the taliban"!

The attack on Yousufzai, who had been advocating education for girls, drew widespread condemnation.
Pakistani surgeons removed a bullet from near her spinal cord during a three-hour operation the day after the attack last week, but she now needs intensive specialist follow-up care.
Authorities have said they have made several arrests in connection with the case but have given no details.
Pakistan's Taliban described Yousufzai as a "spy of the West".
"For this espionage, infidels gave her awards and rewards. And Islam orders killing of those who are spying for enemies," the group said in a statement.
"She used to propagate against mujahideen (holy warriors) to defame (the) Taliban. The Quran says that people propagating against Islam and Islamic forces would be killed

ARIZONA ( Coldwell Banker hires FELONS ) SAN DIEGO watchdog group story

A politician who went to prison 20 years ago in one of Arizona’s most notorious public-corruption cases has apparently been practicing real estate in San Diego County for almost 14 years, using his son’s clean record to get a license.
Donald James Kenney, 73, was a real estate broker at Coldwell Banker in Encinitas until last month, after The Watchdog inquired about his past.
Donald Kenney

The Department of Real Estate began an investigation after The Watchdog inquiry and ordered Kenney on Wednesday to stop practicing real estate. The state concluded that Kenney deceitfully used the identity of his son John Kenney, 44, to obtain a license.
The elder Kenney, who lives in Carlsbad, denies any wrongdoing and denies that he is the lawmaker convicted in Arizona. He declined to meet in person to go over documents gathered by The Watchdog showing he is the former politician.
The elder Kenney and the convicted legislator share the same date of birth and the same three colleges on their résumé. They look the same in photographs. And a letter sent to Kenney as part of his recent effort to restore civil rights lost after his conviction in Arizona was addressed to his Carlsbad home.
Kenney, when he was a legislator, took $55,000 in a gym bag from a Phoenix police operative in a sting operation in 1990 and was sentenced to five years in prison.

A former Arizona legislator who served time in prison and came to San Diego County for a new life more than ten years ago was sentenced Monday for stealing his son's clean record to help him pursue a real estate career locally.
Donald James Kenney, 74, the self-proclaimed "quarterback" in one of Arizona's most well-known political scandals, admitted he used the personal details of his 44-year-old attorney son, Donald John Kenney, without his knowledge to obtain a California identification card and broker's license.
Kenney, once the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in Arizona, went to prison 20 years ago for bribery and money laundering in an effort to legalize casino gambling in Arizona, which was initiated by Phoenix police conducting a sting. When he applied for a broker's license in California in 1998, he not only failed to disclose any misdemeanor or felony convictions to the California Department of Real Estate, which is required, he also used his son's information to obtain the license.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Laura Halgren sentenced Kenney to 240 hours of community service at a non-profit organization, required to be completed by Oct. 31, 2013. Kenney was not sentenced to physical public work because of his medical conditions including severe arthritis and a military injury that damaged his knee, said public defender Nancy Song.
Kenney was granted probation on condition he avoids forging documents, taking controlled substances, and representing himself as a real estate agent or broker in any real estate transactions, unless he is the seller. The court also required Kenney to obtain a driver's license using his own personal information.

CALIFORNIA (TO Ban Flamin HOT CHEETOS from School ) No Way

School officials say the concern is their nutritional value, or lack thereof. Each bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos contains 26 grams of fat and a quarter of the amount of salt that's recommended for the entire day.
One school district in Illinois, which used to sell about 150,000 bags each year, has already taken the snack off its menu.
"If children were to bring in snacks that are high in fat, high in calories, that's their choice," Rockford School District Interim Superintendent Robert Willis said. "We're not going to be providing those kinds of foods."
On top of the artificial coloring and flavoring, some experts say the Cheetos are "hyperpalatable," meaning they're highly addictive.
"Our brain is really hardwired to find things like fat and salt really rewarding and now we have foods that have them in such high levels that it can trigger an addictive process," said Ashley Gearhardt, a clinical psychologist at the University of Michigan.
Frito Lay, which makes and sells Cheetos, says it is "committed to responsible and ethical practices, which includes not marketing our products to children ages 12 and under."
While Flamin' Hot Cheetos are under fire in schools, kids can't get enough of them. So much so that there is a YouTube video featuring kids rapping about their love of the snack.
"Got my fingers stained red and I can't get them off me. You can catch me and my crew eating hot Cheetos and takis," one boy raps in the video.
Takis are a chili pepper- and lime-flavored corn snack.
The video has already been viewed more than 3.3 million times and there are even Facebook fan pages dedicated to the snack.
One fan page has more than 49,000 "likes," with many fans posting photos and videos with the snack.
"Don't feel like leaving to get food," one person writes. "So I'm eating Flamin' Hot Cheetos."
