PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona man is facing charges after police say he stabbed his mother at a Phoenix sushi and steak restaurant, and then sought to behead her.

Authorities say 35-year-old Michael Lee Hansen was arrested this week following the bizarre attack at the Sakura Sushi and Steakhouse.

According to investigators, Hansen punched his mother, knocked her unconscious and stabbed her around her hands and neck.

When detectives arrived, police say Hansen admitted to hitting his mother and attempting to cut her head off.

He also told detectives the attacked stemmed from "pornographic pictures of him." Police say Hansen later attacked another inmate in jail.

Hansen was charged with attempted murder and is being held on $250,000 bond.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

The mother, whose name was not released, suffered non-life threatening injuries

DENVER - The mother found dead on Tuesday night, sparking an AMBER Alert, died from multiple injuries due to an assault, according to the Denver coroner.
"The manner of death is homicide," the coroner wrote in a news release.
Amber Moore's body was found Tuesday evening in her Green Valley Ranch home after police were asked to conduct a welfare check.
An AMBER Alert was issued for her children around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday when officers learned there were three children linked to the home.
Two of the children, a 5-year-old and an 18-month-old, were found a short time later at a relative's home. Another child, a teenager, was located with relatives out of state.
Police also issued an alert asking the public to look for a white car connected to the death of Amber Moore. Law enforcement officers found that car around 5:40 a.m. in Douglas County. Police said when the driver stopped, he shot and killed himself.
The driver, Dominic Moses Moore, 32, was identified as Amber Moore's husband and the father of the children.
Police aren't saying whether the children were home when the woman was killed.

SAN JUAN ( Puerto Rico Mayor Blasted for Giving Himself Big Raise -Extra 1,500 a month )

SAN JUAN – People in recession-battered Puerto Rico were fuming Wednesday over the news that the mayor of a town of 40,000 near San Juan increased his monthly salary from $6,500 to $8,000.

By comparison, the mayor of San Juan – a city of around 400,000 people – receives $10,000 a month.

The pay hike for Mayor Isabelo “Chabelo” Molina’s pay hike was approved by the city council in Vega Alta, controlled by the main opposition PNP party, media outlets said.

The councilors also voted to increase their per diems for attending sessions from $64 to $100, Primera Hora newspaper pointed out.

PNP councilors said the pay increases were within the law and stressed that the municipal government is not running a deficit.

Javier Garcia, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Vega Alta on the ticket of Puerto Rico’s governing PPD, recalled that during the 2004 mayoral campaign, Molina promised to forgo his salary.

After two years in office, however, Molina began collecting his pay of $5,000 a month, later increased to $6,500.

Puerto Rico’s cash-strapped government is about to implement significant cuts to public employees’ pensions even as it increases the amount withheld from current government workers’ paychecks to finance the retirement system. EFE

SAN JOSE ( Flight Attendant Arrested in Costa Rica with $160,000 attached to her body )

SAN JOSE – A 28-year-old Mexican flight attendant was arrested in Costa Rica with $160,000 she was carrying attached to her body, the Security Ministry said.

The woman was arrested Wednesday night in a taxi that was transporting her to a hotel in San Jose after she had arrived in Costa Rica from Mexico as a passenger on a flight.

“It is important to point out that the woman was not working, but rather came as a passenger on a flight of the airline she works for and, despite that, she was wearing a flight attendant uniform, which reveals her interest in fooling the authorities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The police made routine checks at the exit of the Juan Santamaria Airport, located on the outskirts of San Jose, and noted “a certain nervousness in the woman” that aroused their suspicions.

The officials seized the woman and found a body belt fastened to her body at waist level in which she was carrying rolls of $100 bills totaling $160,000.

Another thing that aroused the suspicion of the police was that the woman was traveling alone, something that “is not normal among the flight crews,” said the Security Ministry.

The official said that the flight attendant worked for Aeromexico.

The woman could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. EFE
