Putin is holding meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry

SOCHI, May 12. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is holding a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry at the Bocharov Ruchei residence.
US Secretary of State John Kerry is welcomed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the presidential residence of Bocharov Ruchey in Sochi
This is Putin’s first meeting with a senior US official since the cooling of relations over the Ukrainian crisis.
Kerry arrived at Bocharov Ruchei after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Presidential press-secretary Dmitry Peskov earlier said the diplomats would brief Putin on the results of their contacts.
Peskov said the Kremlin had welcomed Kerry’s decision to visit Russia, because that would contribute to the dialogue and to progress towards the normalization of relations and tight coordination in international issues.
"It is very positive the US Secretary of State made a decision to hold contacts with his Russian counterpart," he said. "This is a positive development in itself, because we have stated more than once at various levels (the president said this, too) that Russia has never been the initiator of a cool-off in relations. We have always remained open to manifestations of political will to have a wider dialogue.".

Suspects in smuggling explosives to Saudi Arabia had Iranian connections

Saudi Arabian Interior Ministry announced on May 9 that a vehicle entering that country from Bahrain was smuggling in explosives that were promptly confiscated.
Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath website based in Dubai reported on May 11 that the vehicle was entering Saudi Arabia via the King Fahd Bridge that connects the two countries. Saudi customs detected the explosives and arrested the culprits. The vehicle was a Ford Fusion and it was carrying more than 30 kilograms of RDX, a highly explosive material, under its back seat. There were also 25 explosive capsules with 6 meter long wicks ready to use.
In a successful cooperation between the two countries, Bahrain arrested five suspects in this plot. Asharq al-Awsat reported on May 10 that Bahrain’s Interior Ministry arrested the suspects once they were identified.
Major General Tareq al-Hassan, Bahraini Chief of Public Security Department explained that in the search conducted on the houses of the arrestees, material suspicious of being explosive, mobile phones, laptops, digital equipment and cameras, contacts with Iran, as well as Saudi, Jordanian and Iranian currencies, were confiscated.
Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen. Iranian mullahs have repeatedly threatened the Saudis for their initiative in Yemen. An Iranian official had threatened that if explosions take place in the capitals of countries supporting the Decisive Storm Operation, these countries would abandon their support for the war in Yemen.

Two Babies Die, 37 Others Sickened by Vaccines in Southern Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Two babies from rural communities died and 37 others were hospitalized in the southern state of Chiapas after having an allergic reaction to vaccinations administered by Mexican Social Security Institute, or IMSS, personnel, state officials said.

“The Chiapas Health Secretariat is treating 37 children in the town of La Pimienta, outside the city of Simojovel, after they experienced allergic reactions to a vaccine supposedly administered by IMSS health personnel,” state health officials said.

A total of “14 children are in serious condition, 22 are stable and one is in critical condition,” the Chiapas Health Secretariat said in a statement.

“Two children age 1 died,” the secretariat said.

Of the 14 babies listed in serious condition, six were transported early Saturday to a medical center in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas, the secretariat said.

The IMSS, for its part, said in a statement that 31 children had reactions “presumably association with the administration of these vaccines” on Friday.

Two children died and 29 others remain hospitalized, the IMSS said.

A total of 52 children received the BCG (tuberculosis), rotavirus and hepatitis B vaccines at the hospital in Simojovel as part of the National Vaccination Program, the IMSS said.

Both the Chiapas Health Secretariat and the IMSS are conducting investigations to identify the cause of the allergic reactions that the babies experienced.

The National Human Rights Commission, or CNDH, also said in a statement released Saturday that it was opening an investigation to determine what caused the babies’ deaths.

“Until the investigations are completed, administration of these vaccines has been suspended at the national level as a preventative measure,” the IMSS said.
