IS Jihadists Kill 34 Young People in Western Iraq

BAGHDAD – Members of the Islamic State, IS, killed on Monday 34 young people in a town in western Iraq for their alleged collaboration with the Iraqi troops, a local security source told Efe.

The victims belong to a village in al-Baghdadi town, located in the province of al-Anbar.

Monday’s attack coincides with a wide offensive launched earlier in the morning by the Iraqi troops to liberate Saladin province, north of Baghdad.

IS seized control of Mosul, the country’s second largest city, and declared in late June, 2014 the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate in areas under its control in both Iraq and Syria.

Swiss Woman Found Murdered on Guatemalan Beach

GUATEMALA CITY – The body of a Swiss woman was found Sunday on a beach on Guatemala’s Pacific coast bearing knife wounds, emergency authorities said.

Fire Department spokesperson Cecilia Chacaj told Efe that Erika Verena Jenni, 57, was found on the Monterrico beach in Santa Rosa province.

Chacaj added that emergency authorities were alerted by local residents to the presence of a body on the beach.

“Upon arriving at the beach, the lifeless body of a woman of Swiss nationality was found with several wounds caused by a knife,” she said.

Guatemala – along with Honduras and El Salvador – is one of the countries making up Central America’s so-called Northern Triangle, a zone considered to be one of the most violent areas in the world.

A total of 694 women were murdered in Guatemala in 2014, three more than the year before, according to government authorities.

IAEA chief: Iran is not handing over key nuclear information

The head of the United Nations' nuclear watchdog said on Monday Iran had still not handed over key information to this organization investigating Tehran’s nuclear activities.
"Iran has yet to provide explanations that enable the agency to clarify two outstanding practical measures," Yukiya Amano told the body's Board of Governors in Vienna, echoing a report seen by Reuters last month.
Diplomats have voiced doubt over whether the outstanding issues in the U.N. investigation would be resolved before a deal is reached between Iran, the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany, Reuters reported.
Xinhua news agency quoted IAEA chief as saying in a statement to the board meeting in Vienna on Monday: “The agency is not in a position to provide credible assurance about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran, and therefore to conclude that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities.”
He added that his agency remained ready to accelerate the resolution of all outstanding issues, but “this process cannot continue indefinitely

At Least 2 Dead in Blast in Egyptian City of Aswan

CAIRO – At least two people died and five others were wounded when a bomb exploded in front of a police station in the southern Egyptian city of Aswan, the country’s official Mena news agency reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, the bomb was planted inside an electrical transformer in front of the police station.

Among the injured is a police recruit, Mena said, adding that at present law enforcement authorities are trying to find those responsible for the blast.

The attack comes five days after Egyptian President Abdelfatah al-Sisi implemented a law to combat and prohibit terrorist groups, including anything that disrupts the public order and social peace, legislation that had been approved by the government last November.

In December 2013, Egyptian authorities declared the Muslim Brotherhood to be a terrorist group, six months after the military deposed President Mohammed Mursi, the head of that organization.

Since the coup, terrorist attacks on the security forces have increased, staged mainly by the jihadist groups Agnad Masr and Wilayat Sina, the latter formerly known as Ansar Beit al Maqdis, which swore loyalty to the Islamic State.

However, this kind of attack has not been a frequent occurrence in the tourist towns of Egypt, such as Aswan.
