A Florida man has been charged with preventing firefighters from putting out a fire in his home because he was hiding pot plants.Gaetano Rodriguez, 27, allegedly refused to unlock the door to a bedroom despite the fact that firefighters needed to enter the room to battle a fire inside.
St. Petersburg firefighters were called to the house Rodriguez was renting after reports of a fire. However, when they informed Rodriguez they needed to enter a locked bedroom he refused to unlock the door.
Firefighters were forced to break down the door and once inside discovered about 100 potted marijuana plants.
Though Rodriguez eventually admitted he planned to the sell the pot, he first claimed it was for his own medicinal use.
For obstructing firefighters, Rodriguez was taken to Pinellas County Jail. He was also charged with cultivating marijuana.
The home that Rodriguez was renting reportedly belongs to his father.
