A California news anchor is facing public-intoxication charges mere months after her disappearance sparked an extensive search.
On Monday, Paula Lopez of KEYT News was arrested near her home in Santa Barbara. She was charged with public -intoxication, taken into custody, and ultimately released with a citation to appear in court.
This weekend’s incident comes after Lopez’s disappearance on February 27. That day, Lopez’s family reported her missing, but shortly after, they reported to authorities that she had been found.
Neither her family nor authorities gave the reasoning for her disappearance, with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department simply stating, “We are not commenting on the reasons surrounding why Ms. Lopez went missing due to the fact it is a private family matter.”
She later claimed her disappearance was a result of neglecting medical issues including dehydration and pneumonia.
Lopez is the wife of Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa, with whom she has three children. She is a co-anchor for the ABC affiliate’s 11 p.m. news. However, since the February incident, Lopez has not been anchoring the news as regularly.
